well!! watched this movie yesterday!! when i first put it, what surprised me that the movie was black and white!!! why, i wondered!!! Directed by Alex Holridge, this movie came out in the year 2008. The movie starts with scenes of couples kissing and then the voice over.. "The Midnight Kiss..it is not just another kiss, it's all the hope of romance of the year culminating in just one moment and that over hyped kiss in which there is so much calling, texting, planning, hurrying and drinking,
to make happiness all set at a moment when time itself take center stage... when you can probably feel the weight of the year to come next with the loneliness and the missed opportunities of the years gone by"
The movie shows a time span of just 2 days, its more of a dialouge between this girl Vivian (played bu Sarah Simmonds) and Wilson (played by Scoot McNairy)
Wilson is lonely..its new year eve..he has nobody and his freind who thinks it not "pathetic" to publish his need in WWW makes him post an advertisement. That's what wilson writes.. "misanthrope seeks misanthrope. honestly, if you are responding to this ad you are probably not the kind of woman i'd go out with. i guess i am lonely and its new year and i am willing to embarass the hell out of myself with this ad. About me.. my gfs over the year's have been intelligent and beautiful and in the end they have all broken my heart...whatever that means . My freind here says i have to have a photo.. so here it is..talk to you wilson"..and thats how he get Vivian's call who seems to be a trained expert in net dating..apparently she has to meet 4 guys that day and then decide who is that is worth spending time till midnight!
Wilson is a writer and Vivian an actress...sometimes thay seem so matched for each other and just at the next time so very mismatched...both of them wander thorugh the streets of LA...talking..about love, life, confessions, art...sometimes thay are fighting with each other and at the other moment they are united in this activity of getting Vivian's thing from the house of her crazy BF before he reaches there to burn it
the movie does not have the normal romantic flicks masala..if i might call it!! it does not have colour (its B&W)..it does not have those tear jerking emotions, it does not show amazing loacles..expensive dresses or cars and kisses...the dialouges and the simplicity of the movie is what makes it shine out...its simple yet elegant..the conversation between the charecters seem so life like...so natural...
when i started this film i thought "what the heck!!!...its going to be boring and i deliberately have to make an effort to see it!!!" but when the movie rolled itself i realised it was highly absorbing..subtle in its own way and by the time i was done with it, i had fallen in love with the sheer brillaince of the movie, the story, the depiction, the cinematography, the dialouges...
a highly recommended film to everybody who love the word life!!!
As Leonardo Da Vinci says, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication"
